Our Commitment to Affordability

The Josselyn Center is built on a few basic principles:

  • Everyone deserves quality care, close to home and their loved ones, delivered with dignity and respect.
  • Mental health care must be a top priority in our communities, just like great schools, safe neighborhoods, and access to other kinds of medical care.
  • Lastly, we are all connected.

Since we were founded in 1951, our commitment to affordability has never waivered -- even though government funding fluctuates, and has just about evaporated over the last ten years.

We provide psychiatric and supportive services under Medicaid and Medicare, we offer a sliding fee, and take several insurance programs.

We are able to set fees based on a client’s income, thanks to grants, partnerships, and the generous support of individuals in our community.

The need for affordable mental health care is closer to home than you might think:

Each year, one in five people faces mental health issues. About 80 percent of adults with mental illness are unemployed. More than half go without treatment.

Nationally, at least one in three families is one financial crisis away from falling below the poverty line.

Chicago's northern suburbs is an area of great disparity; one in six residents lives below the poverty line.
