The Josselyn Center Expands Psychiatric Services in Park Ridge
Made possible by grant funding from Maine Township, The Josselyn Center originally launched psychiatric services at MaineStay in 2016 for adults. Psychiatric services are now also available to children in first grade and up and include comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, consultation, collaboration, and referral. Medicaid recipients are welcome and a sliding fee is available.
When Maine Center closed in 2015 due to financial difficulties, many low-income clients receiving psychiatric care were left without access to local services. To ease the burden on its residents, Maine Township began exploring options so residents could receive services close to home. "As difficult as it can be for adults to locate affordable psychiatric care, it is nearly impossible for children and adolescents since mental health facilities have struggled to retain providers for years," said MaineStay Director Richard Lyon. "Maine Center, for example, was forced to eliminate child and adolescent psychiatric services back in 2010 due to lack of provider availability."
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the average delay between onset of symptoms in children and intervention is 8-10 years. "We are proud and honored to partner with Maine Township to provide expanded, affordable psychiatric services to children in these communities," said Susan Resko, President.
