Objectives At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Learn and review relevant terminology
  • Understand the barriers to accessing mental health care for the transgender community
  • Identify celebratory and affirming ways of engaging with transgender clients
  • Understand the clinician’s role in allyship and how to advocate for transgender people in all spaces

Presenter Bio

Moe Ari Brown(they/he) is a dynamic Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, the Love and Connection Expert for the dating app Hinge, Co-host of the Be Your Own Love Goals Podcast, former adjunct professor, and TEDx 2023 speaker. As a Black Transgender man, Moe specializes in helping couples and individuals heal from past traumas and build authentic, fulfilling relationships. He empowers people to live authentically, fostering belonging and unconditional love.

Over the past decade, he founded Transcendent Therapy & Consulting, LLC, a practice that offers gender-affirming and celebratory care to the LGBTQ+ community. Through his professional work and journey as a person of Transgender experience, Moe Ari is now an expert in cultivating radical authenticity ⏤ The process of integrating, accepting, aligning, and celebrating one’s intersecting identities despite threats to belonging. As a public speaker, Moe Ari offers the lessons he learned, hoping that his story will inspire others to unconditional self-love and alignment.

As the Love and Connection Expert at Hinge, Moe pairs Hinge’s research with his expertise in relationships to ensure that Hinges remains at the forefront of building an inclusive dating space where all daters can find love, both in the app and offline. As a public speaker, Moe Ari educates others on allyship for the Trans community. Some of his academic work, “Transcending the Binary: A Narrative Therapy Approach to Helping Black Trans Men,” is included in Black Couples Therapy: Clinical Theory and Practice, a textbook for couples therapy published by Cambridge University Press.

Moe has been featured in many news articles, podcasts, broadcast interviews, and magazines throughout the US, UK, and Australia. Moe is also a Board Member for It Gets Better, co-host of the Be Your Own Love Goals Podcast, a former adjunct professor at Adler University, a CE course presenter for SimplePractice Learning, a member of SimplePractice’s Customer Advisory Board, consultant on DEI & Belonging, and a 2023 TEDx Atlanta speaker.
