Objectives At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the concept of “a loyalty contract” as the reenactment of the unfair rules of engagement of that were the result of attachment injuries experienced in childhood
- Illustrate how the behavioral expectations contained within unfair loyalty contracts are repeatedly enacted and manifest in the form of beliefs, standards for performance, and expectations of others
- Demonstrate ways to penetrate the reflexive patterns and blind spots contained within loyalty contracts in the service of healing and growth
Patricia Gianotti, Psy.D.
Presenter Bio
Patricia Gianotti, Psy.D., is the academic director of The Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy at Loyola University Chicago and managing partner of Woodland Psychological Services, a private group practice in North Hampton, NH. Her areas of specialization center on attachment difficulties associated with trauma, shame and narcissistic injury. Gianotti is the co-author of two books: Listening with Purpose: Entry Point into Shame and Narcissistic Vulnerability and Uncovering the Resilient Core: A Workbook on the Treatment of Narcissistic Defenses, Shame, and Emerging Authenticity. Her third book entitled Embracing Therapeutic Complexity: A Guidebook to Integrating the Essential of Psychodynamic Principles Across Therapeutic Disciplines was published by Routledge in 2022.
